Dru’s Homework Pays Off
Dru the Golden is really coming along on the weave poles since his handler, Amy, got him a set for Christmas. Dru has just finished Beginning classes and is taking his talents to the Intermediate level. This is the first Pic of the Week to be taken from a cell phone camera. Usually cell phone pics do not have the resolution to be able to enlarge the image like we do with the Pic of the Week. The cell phone must be an iPhone, since Amy likes to point out, “what else is there anyway"? Wiseacre: Hey Dru, how’s the weather up there? Dru: Slightly breezy with a chance of me running you over! All kidding aside, Dru, Amy and Meghan have done it again. Amy recently submitted a slew of great pics taken during class by Meghan, Dru’s Godmother. This pic really stands out from an outstanding lot because it literally presents a dogs-eye view from a-top the A-Frame. And if you look closely, you can spot Amy making a 'Where's Waldo' appearance. Rusty the Vizsla has an angelic look about him, as if his halo is still unbroken. His handler, Desma, might beg to differ, but Rusty has all the zeal of a young pup and with his legs, he is most certainly built for speed.

Jambo says, "C'mon, this jump isn't high enough", and he's right. This jump is more of a step over for him. Marcia, Jambo's handler, purchased some jumps for Jambo to work on at home. Jambo's large size has not slowed him down on any of the contact equipment, especially the Dogwalk and Teeter. Maybe those large paws give him extra traction.

Phoenix was a little fearful of agility at first, but after just a couple of lessons he found himself brimming with confidence and his tail high in the air. George's adept handling and Susan's encouragement has certainly helped Phoenix. This kind of turn around makes agility very meaningful and so much fun for us to be a part of.

Vim and Vigor are two words that describe the young Tanner the Golden. He suprised his handler, Linda, with how quickly he has taken to agility at his age. Now that they have moved on to the Intermediate level, Tanner continues to improve.

Jessie learns the teeter with her handler Stephanie. Stephanie and her husband Kevin both like to work the course with Jessie. Jessie is a fast learner in agility, and her quickness just adds to her enormous potential.

Cho-Cho San, the adorable Papillon, makes his way through the purple tunnel. The sound of squeaking is often heard when Cho-Cho is on the course, as his handler, Kathryn, sometimes uses toys instead of treats. Kathryn drives Cho-Cho all the way from San Clemente to our Fountain Valley location to get some quality time for the two of them on Sundays. We will miss Cho-Cho and Kathryn for a while, as Kathryn will be on medical leave. Incidentally, Cho-Cho in Japanese means 'butterfly', which in French means 'Papillon'.

It's Like Herding Cats . . . Teddy the Tunneling Terrier Teddy the Yorkshire Terrier completes the tunnel and looks for his handler, Karen. Teddy is also an outstanding jumper. The elevation he achieves over jumps on the courses is much higher than his size would indicate. That is just one of the reasons that Teddy & Karen are so entertaining to watch in class.
We've Never Seen So Many Dogs on an A-Frame at One Time!
At the end of Graduation at one of our 2010 Fall Intermediate Agility classes, Roger Williams came up with the great idea of a class photo. For some reason, we all congregated around the A-Frame. Left to right, Karen & Teddy the Yorkie, Roger & Bandit the Jack Russell, Diane & Duffy the Airedale, Lisa & Deacon the Jack Russell, Ross, Lisa & Tailer the Catahoula, Natalie, Annie & Hayden the

DUFFY DOMINATES THE CHUTE
Maybe it's because Duffy is an Airedale. Maybe it's because Airedales are known as the "King of the Terriers". Or maybe it's because terriers are earthdogs, but Duffy has never had a problem burrowing through the chute since his very first class. In fact, Duffy has no problem with any of the agility obstacles. Duffy just likes to have a good time and you can tell by the mischievous grin he wears.

...but 'mighty Casey' does not strike out. She doesn't even take the first two pitches. She & Cindy come out of the gate swinging, which makes for much joy in 'Mudville', I mean

Trying to get every person and dog facing the camera at the same time, keeping shadows off faces and keeping dogs from wandering away for the group picture. Believe it or not, this is the best of the bunch! For your consideration, here is the Winter/Spring 2011 Advanced Intermediate graduating agility class in

The Doggies Get Jumpin'
All of the agility students below, Bailey, Zoey, Chelsea and Parker are not in class or doing homework. They are at Companion Dogs by Sue Myles St. Brigid's Day and just having fun. Sherry Skipper Spurgeon literally got down on the ground to take these great pics. Pam Hamada added a nice touch to the winged panel jump with some holly.
